Web Science is a novel discipline at the intersection of several sciences targeting a better understanding of the Web and its users and aiming at the development of new technologies in and for the Web. At the Institute for Web Science & Technologies – WeST we announce the following open positions of

1 Senior Researcher, Project Lead (1,0 EGr. 14 TV-L)

2 Junior Researchers (1,0 EGr. 13 TV-L)

Successful candidates will work in EU projects on topics related to social network analysis, linked data, and text mining applying their novel research results to the areas of E-Journalism and E-Democracy.

Junior researchers will have an outstanding master's degree in computer science or another discipline relevant for Web Science. We expect eagerness to participate in team work, outstanding analytical competence, strong interest in interdisciplinary research and excellent programming skills. The senior researcher is expected to have a Ph.D. as well as strong publications in a relevant field.

Furthermore, we announce the open position of:

1 Administrative Head of the Institute (1,0 EGr. 13 TV-L)

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing administration of the institute including public relations, project management, responsibility for organizationa processes, as well as own scientific work.

Canidates should have an outstanding master's degree in a discipline relevant for Web Science. We expect her/him to be interested in Web Science research, to understand and be able to manage administrative processes and to manage projects. Having a Ph.D. degree is welcome.

Ph.D. scholarships in "Web Science".

Ph.D. students will have an outstanding master's degree in computer science or another discipline relevant for Web Science. We expect eagerness to participate in team work, outstanding analytical competence, strong interest in interdisciplinary research and excellent programming skills. The duration of the scholarships is for two years with an extension being possible for a third year. Ph.D. students will have a broad choice in selecting their Ph.D. topic from the wide field of Web Science.

Topics high on our current research agenda include

  • Programming with linked data: This is a joint project with the excellent research department of a large corporation exploiting knowledge about functional programming and the programming environment F# (http://research.microsoft.com/fsharp)
  • Indexing linked data: This is research work continuing our award-winning Linked Data environment SchemEx (http://challenge.semanticweb.org/2011/).
  • Social computation: This is research work exploiting our previous work on preference aggregation and provenance.

Wir suchen einen Studierenden, der uns bei der Verwaltung unseres CMS unterstützt. Erfahrung mit Plone ist vorteilhaft, jedoch keine Voraussetzung.
