Multipla - Multi-Ontology Learning: Crossing the Boundaries of Domains and Languages
Duration: April 2008 - December 2011
Funding ProgrammeDeutsche Forschungsgesellschaft (DFG)
The project MULTIPLA is devoted to new methods of collaborative learning of multilingual ontologies for semantic web applications. An important target of this project is to support the integration of different languages and domains for knowledge-based applications. In this context, new methods for learning ontologies in different languages or specialized domains as well as the methodology for their integration will be developed. Focuses of the institute WeST within the project MULTIPLA are data acquisition (i.a. thematically focused, multilingual search for relevant contents in the web), learning of multilingual ontologies based on gathered information as well as the methodology of collaborative learning of ontologies (i.a. for semantic social networks and p2p applications). The activities in this project are conducted in close cooperation with the Institute of Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods (AIFB) in Karlsruhe. Our common use case regards users of knowledge databases who phrase queries in their national language and are presented with results both in their language and foreign languages.
