How to get to the Koblenz campus

A railway station for local trains as well as a long-distance railway station is in the vicinity of Terminal 1. There are trains to Koblenz at hourly intervals at the long-distance station. With most of the connections, however, you have to change trains in Mainz. The journey from Frankfurt airport to Koblenz main station takes about 70 minutes. Having arrived at Koblenz main station, you can take the bus or get a taxi to get to the campus.

At Frankfurt airport you can also hire a car from one of the car rental services. A drive from Frankfurt to Koblenz by car takes also about 70 minutes. 

This airport is serviced by a range of low-cost airlines, e.g. Air Berlin, HLX, Germanwings or EasyJet. The station for local trains as well as the long-distance railway station are located directly at the airport. A train ride to Koblenz takes about 80 minutes.

At the airport you can also hire a car from one of the car rental services. A drive from Frankfurt to Koblenz usually takes also about 80 minutes.

Frankfurt-Hahn airport is about an hour’s drive from Frankfurt or Koblenz and is mainly serviced by the low-cost airline RyanAir. There are car rental and airport transfer services (e.g. bus 610 to Koblenz main station). Bus 610 operates 5 times a day to and from the airport. The journey by bus takes about 1 hour.

Koblenz can be reached by train via Koblenz central station or the ICE station Montabaur.

If you are planning to go to Koblenz by train, you can obtain all the information you need from the website of Deutsche Bahn AG.

Visitors who are planning to take a train arriving at the ICE station in Montabaur can also find time tables etc. at the Deutsche Bahn AG’s website. Having arrived at Montabaur, you can either take a bus (bus 460) or a taxi to Koblenz.

Once you are in Koblenz, you can reach almost every place by bus, taxi or on foot.

There are two main bus terminals in Koblenz – the ZOB (Zentraler Omnibus Bahnhof) opposite the main railway station and Löhr-Center, which is a shopping mall located in the city centre.

Depending on the bus you are taking, you either have to get off at “Oberweiher” (bus no. 5), “Uni” (buses no. 5 or 20) or “Winninger Straße” (buses no. 3, 20 and 355) if you want to go to the campus. All three buses stop directly at the campus.

Buses 5/15 depart from bus stop D and lines 3 and 355 from bus stop H at Koblenz main station.

If approaching from the north (northern Germany, Ruhr Area, Cologne) and the east (eastern part of Germany and Gießen)

Take autobahn A3 and change at Dernbacher Dreieck to the A48. Leave the A48 at the Koblenz exit. Change to the B9 and take the “Metternich, B 258” exit after about 4 km. Continue in the direction of Metternich until you change after about 3 km to the B416 (Güls). After about 500m you take the exit “Metternich West (Uni)” and follow the signposting.

If approaching from the south (from southern and western Germany, Mainz, Eifel and Luxembourg)

Take the A61 to Koblenz. Leave the A61 at the Koblenz-Metternich exit. Follow the main road to Koblenz. After about 5 km the main road brings you to the B416 (Güls). After another 500m take the exit “Metternich West, Uni” and follow the signposting.

Possible traps when planning your journey to Koblenz

• especially for guests from Switzerland: Verify that the ticket you have booked is for “Koblenz am Rhein” (state of Rheinland-Palatinate, Germany). If you have a ticket for “Koblenz am Bodensee” you might end up 500km away from the place you originally wanted to go to!

• Please bear in mind that “Landau” is not a suburb of Koblenz. Landau is a city in the southern part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, 230km away from Koblenz.

• Even though the personnel at your hotel or the taxi driver are telling you something different: The university campus is situated in “Metternich”, which is in the west and on the banks of the Moselle river. The campus used to be in “Oberwerth”, which is located in the south and on the banks of the Rhine river. The whole campus moved in 2002. The old campus is now partly used by the University of Applied Sciences of Koblenz

• In city maps older than 2003, the “Universitätsstraße” had a different name. It was called “Rammsweg” before it was renamed in 2003.

If you intend to stay overnight, you can book a hotel by using the online booking service. If you want to stay in a suburb that is very close to the university, you should look for accommodation in Metternich, Güls, Moselweiß, Rauental or city centre.

Some of the hotels offer special prices for guests of the university. You should indicate that you are participating in an official meeting at the university when you are booking the hotel.
