Foundations for successful scientific presentations

The aim of this workshop is for PhD students to learn key repeatableCampus Landau Campus Landaucommunication skills, enabling them to enhance their scientific presentations and market themselves and their research more effectively. Participants will receive individual personal feedback and leave the course with an action plan, enabling them to work on their own weaknesses.


The workshop is facilitated by two trainers: Amanda Habbershaw, specialist in English and intercultural communication, and Orlando Schenk, qualified speech and rhetoric trainer. It therefore provides participants with a unique opportunity to receive input and feedback from trainers with different backgrounds and specializations.

Participants must prepare a 5-minute presentation beforehand. PPT slides are optional, but not necessary.


Workshop contents:

      • The elevator pitch: presenting your research effectively in a few sentences 
      • Crafting a message-based presentation; selecting and dosing content and complex data accordingly
      • Organizing and linking
      • Improving eye contact, movement and gesture
      • Projecting your voice, optimizing articulation and melody


Workshop methodology:

      • Input by trainers, exercises, discussions, presentations, feedback.
