Priority Programme "Design and Architectures of Dependable Embedded Systems" (SPP 1500)
It is the goal of this Priority Programme and a grand challenge in the nano age to develop new system-level methods and architectures that can cope with the negative effects caused by the inherent unreliability observed at transistor and physical level when migrating to new technology nodes. Within the first phase of this programme, a paradigm shift has been initiated by means of resiliency and adaptability: Resiliency exhibits a certain degree of "immunisation" such that an adaption may not even be necessary. Adaptability, for instance, may reconfigure in order to attune to scenarios of unreliability. These new ways of approaching reliability are intended to be continued within this 2nd phase of this Priority Programme with the goal to ensure the economical profitability of Nanoscale-CMOS for some more decades.
