Writing for Researchers – From School English to Academic English (1/3)
Erster Termin einer dreiteiligen Veranstaltung für Promovierende aller Fachbereiche
The workshop is for PhD-students of all subjects. Its objective is to improve students’ ability to produce coherent and cohesive texts in English. 
We will look at
- academic style – degrees of formality
- writing good sentences, being concise
- tenses used in various parts of the paper
- word order, punctuation
- summarising and paraphrasing
- linking devices
- strategies for finding and correcting errors, typical mistakes
- useful phrases
Students will be required to bring a piece of text (200-250 word) with them to the first session outlining their research to date. They will also be expected to do homework between the three sessions.
