Collaborative Creation of Semantic Points of Interest as Linked Data on the Mobile Phone
News: After some maintenance at the University of Koblenz is the server up and running again.
Abstract: The novel mobile application csxPOI (short for: collaborative, semantic, and context-aware points-of-interest) enables its users to collaboratively create, share, and modify semantic points of interest (POI). Semantic POIs describe geographic places with explicit semantic properties of a collaboratively created ontology. As the ontology includes multiple subclassifications and instantiations and as it links to DBpedia, the richness of annotation goes far beyond mere textual annotations such as text. With the intuitive interface of csxPOI, users can easily create, delete, and modify their POIs and those shared by others. Thereby, the users adapt the structure of the ontology underlying the semantic annotations of the POIs. Data mining techniques are employed to cluster and thus improve the quality of the collaboratively created POIs. The semantic POIs and collaborative POI ontology are published as Linked Open Data.
Installation on your Android Phone: The application is available in Google's Marketplace and can be installed from any Google Android enabled mobile phone. Search for "csxPOI".
Installation on Android Emulator: Below you find a short description of how to install the csxPOI application into the Android Emulator.
1. Download the Android SDK (see http://developer.android.com/sdk/1.6_r1/index.html)
2. Change into folder "tools" of the SDK
3. Create an "Android Virtual Device" (AVD) (see http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/avd.html):
3a. Determine the right targetID with "android list targets" (choose Android + Google API as targetID)
3b. Once the correct targetID is identified, one can create an AVD with "android create avd -n test -t 3"
4. Starting the emulator via "emulator -avd test"
5. Upload the csxPOI application into the emulator with "adb install <path_to>csxPOI.apk".
You can download csxPOI.apk from here (csxPOI Version 1).

There is also an update of the application available for download here that supports events (csxPOI Version 2)
6. The csxPOI application should appear as icon in the program list and can be startet
