Curriculum
The curriculum is organized in 7 module groups:
1. The mandatory Foundations of Web Science establish a primary view of the Web and of more abstract Web structures (e.g. networks) and build a bridge between computer science, economics, mathematics and social science viewing and modeling the Web along these different perspectives.
2. The Computer Science track requires to choose 3 out of 4 available courses for engineering the Web (Web engineering, Semantic Web) and searching/analysing it (Web Retrieval, Social Web and Bibliometry).
3. The module group Economics and Social Science considers interaction of the Web and different user groups:
- Citizens in the Web: eParticipation
- Customers in the Web: Online Consumer Behavior
- Entrepreneurs in the Web: New Product Development
- Interests Groups in the Web: Online Communities
At least two out of these 4 modules must be chosen.
4.+5. The remainder of the curriculum may be freely chosen from all Master courses with relevance to the Web given at University Koblenz-Landau, whereby a minimum set of courses must be from computer science (18 ECTS) and from non-computer science (12 ECTS). Courses not listed here include ones in linguistics, anthropology, communication theory, political science, etc. Courses listed under items 2. and 3. may be chosen if they had not been elected yet to fulfill requirements of items 2. or 3.
6.+7. Topics for seminars, research lab and master's thesis can be freely chosen from Web Science subjects.
