The EU Project has been successfully kicked-off in Rom

NeOn targets Networked Ontologies reflecting the interrelationships between different organizations in electronic markets and govermental information flows.

NeOn includes two major applications. In its first application, in the pharmaceutical domain new govermental regulations and new laboratory outcomes must be integrated to provide appropriate, coherent information to health care providers. So far, this is done by tedious manual integration. Using the paradigm of networked ontologies reflecting individual needs of the govermental and business parties, this process will be automatized. Key to automation is the easy maintenance of comprehensive and complex ontologies that reflect the real world needs of involved parties.

In its second application, information flow within the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UN FAO) concerning world-wide depletion of fish stock is handled by networked ontologies. The networking of geographically distributed and heterogeneous information sources into an ontology-based federation of knowledge bases will facilitate global monitoring of fish stocks.
