Gaze Tracking
For kinetically handicapped persons as well as in certain work scenarios the tracking of eye movement is one - sometimes the only - way to communicate. The goal of this field of research is to develop devices and applications that track a user's line of vision and hence derive certain actions - e.g. by fixing a button on the screen, which is provided for this purpose.
Just regarding the countries of the European Union there are up to 3 million persons concerned with the problem of not being able to communicate the conventional way because of different ways of diseases or injuries. In the context of the IST program of the Network of Excellence COGAIN, financed by the EU, the development of gaze tracking systems is pressed ahead on the psychological, pedagogical, ergonomic and technical level.
Concretely the AGAS is working on the realization of a technical system based on economically priced standard components.
