Christian Winkens received a VDI prize for his diploma thesis "Schleifenschlusserkennung zur Erstellung von 3D-Karten" (engl. "Loop detection for 3D-Map building"). The prize was granted by the Verein Deutscher Ingenieure Rheinland-Pfalz (http://www.vdi.de/8216.0.html).
