The Chair of Media and Service Management was filled by Assistant Professor Dr. Thomas Kilian on 1st October 2010. Research and teaching of the chair deal with issues of media industry, media management and media psychology. The service industry, with its characteristics and challenges, is also an object of research.

Focus of Research and Teaching

Traditional media like books, newspaper, television and music are fascinating and – through digitalization and the internet – very dynamic industries. Digitalization, in combination with a new media usage behavior of the “Generation Internet” and the increasing redeployment of advertising budgets to online media, puts especially traditional media under enormous transformation pressure. This is the focus of the chair’s research.

Production and distribution of information and entertainment follow their own rules, which are difficult to compare to other consumer goods markets. The focus of the chair’s teaching is therefore on characteristics of media markets and the analysis of the different areas of the media industry. As a foundation for recipients oriented media management, during seminars and research courses especially media-psychological issues are analyzed.

In the compulsory area of Business Studies, the program Production and Organization, in which several production concepts and organization forms and theories are covered, is offered every second term.
