Description:

The gas chromatograph coupled to a flame ionization detector (FID) and electron capture detector (ECD) can analyze organic chemicals with sufficient volatility. The FID reaches detection limits in the nanogram range, but is limited to samples without high matrix contents due to possible interferences. The ECD is a more specific detector for compounds which are able to capture electrons (e.g. halogenated compounds, compounds containing sulfur or halogens). The detection limit strongly depends on the compound class and can reach limits down to the femtogram range.
