More than plagiarism – A workshop for safeguarding good scientific practice
A Digital Workshop for PhD-interested students and PhD Candidates
You do not feel addressed by good scientific practice, because you are thinking of different cases of plagiarism? Good scientific practice covers more than plagiarism – it also implies basic principles of scientific work and ways to safeguard them.
Regulations concerning correct data management (i.e. Which rules do I need to follow for documenting and safeguarding my research data and my research project?) and concerning the authorship of publications (i.e. Which contributions entitle an author? How can authors be listed?) are discussed in the workshop.
The topic of plagiarism is in focus as well (i.e. What are the types of plagiarism? What is self-plagiarism?). Cases of scientific misconduct and the resulting consequences are explained through prominent examples. How conflicts of interest arise and how they can be solved will be stated, too. Furthermore, the workshop takes a look into scripts of quality assurance in science and into the Guidelines for Good Scientific Practice of the University of Koblenz-Landau.
Workshop content:
- Good scientific practice and scientific misconduct
- data management
- plagiarism
- authorship
- conflicts of interest
- general and specific documents about good scientific practice
Tutor: Dr. Kathrin Ruhl
