Becoming Visible – Self-Marketing, Personal Branding, and Networking in Academia

An Event for PhD Candidates

Wimpel Englisch Vertikal

Strategic self-marketing, personal branding, and networking are essential for early career researchers to 'become visible' in academic and other professional contexts.

In a welcoming atmosphere, we will reflect on the significance of networking and the benefits of creating a clear and confident academic/professional profile.

Supported by theoretical impulses and practical units, the workshop assists doctoral candidates in developing their career portfolios to authentically and confidently mirror their skills, competencies, values, and work ethics for academic purposes and beyond. Together we will work on simple yet effective strategies to expand professional networks at conferences and in other academic environments, practice small talk, and explore how to efficiently use professional networks on the internet, such as LinkedIn or academia.edu to increase one's visibility on the (academic) job market.
