Study on Doctoral Candidates in Germany – Call for Participation

University of Koblenz Landau is partner oft the Nacaps Study of the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW).

Nacaps – “National Academics Panel Study” – is a longitudinal study on doctoral candidates and doctorate holders and generates versatile research data on the study conditions for doctorates, career aims and professional development, as well as on the general life situation of doctoral candidates and doctorate holders in Germany.

The study results will be

  • made available to Nacaps’ partner HEIs (Higher Education Institution) for monitoring, controlling and quality management,
  • prepared for the expert public and decision makers in higher education and science policy in the form of reports, as a basis for evidence-based monitoring of young researchers,
  • made available to the scientific community for research purposes

and will thereby influence future decisions, which are relevant for early career researchers.

At our university the Interdisciplinary Graduate and Postdoc Centre will be responsible for all organisational details of the survey and is also your contact for any question regarding Nacaps.

By the end of February all doctoral candidates who have been registered after 1 December 2018 will receive an invitation to take part in the online survey. A participation is also most valuable if you did not follow the usual path to or during your doctoral studies.

Only with a wide range of respondents can we gain a full picture of the doctorate landscape. This also applies if you discontinued your doctorate in the meantime or if you only came to Germany for your doctorate or if you intend to leave Germany after completing it.

We would appreciate your support of Nacaps and will be happy to answer all your questions.

For further information please visit also or see this flyer.

First results of the study from 2019 are accessible via the data portal (German only).
