BEE's-Groups / Business, Engineering and Education Study Groups
Zeitraum: 01.01.2016 - 31.07.2018
Status: laufend

The project BBE's Groups - Business, Engineering and Education Study Groups - is a series of three week-long study groups with industry carried out by the project partners

  • Mathematical Institute, Campus Koblenz, University Koblenz-Landau (UKOLD), Germany,
  • Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Peter the Great Saint-Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU), Russia,
  • Faculty of Applied Mathematics, National Technical University of Ukraine, Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI), Ukraine.

The project is sponsored by the Volkswagen Foundation.

The study group workshops are devoted to consideration and solving of several specific problems posed by industrial companies. These are genuine brain-storming sessions on real problems, the only formal sessions being at the beginning and the end of the week. The spin- off is substantial in terms of contacts with industry and genuine mathematical problems. There is versatile effects to curriculum development for application oriented mathematics and engineering education. The BEE’S Groups objectives are 

    • to enhance the interest of industrial companies for collaboration with academia by showing true potential of scientific approach for solving specific problems; 
    • to stimulate academics by working on problems that are both new and relevant and often present exciting mathematical challenges; 
    • to introduce students to industrial research in action; 
    • to provide recruitment possibilities for students; 
    • to provide the possibility for informal contacts and joint work for both senior and junior researchers from Germany, Russia and Ukraine.
    1.

Moreover BEE’S Groups provides the tool for maintaining and strengthening its research base and collaborative links between centers. Study Groups offer opportunities for young researchers to work on mathematical problems in industry at doctoral and postdoctoral level. This is a unique possibility to learn from complementary expertise at the various centers. Knowledge transfer and learning from the experience of other partners motivate and accelerate reform in educational practices.

Tentative Schedule of the Study Groups:
