  abstract = {Cervix carcinoma is the second most frequent cause for death resulting from cancer. Early detection may help to reduce morbidity as well as mortality rates. Thus, computer assisted analysis and pre-classification of Papanicolaous-stained cell smears is able enhance this effort. Since especially the nuclei of cervical cells are subject to further feature detection steps, in this contribution we present and compare image methods for the detection and segmentation for cervical cell nuclei based on morphology and Hough transform. The detection quality is evaluated with respect to hand segmentation. Further work is reported by enhancing these detection and segmentation methods by the application of the theory of level-sets},
