Respirometer

Instumentelle Analytik (Umwelt- und Bodenchemie)

A respirometer is used to measure the amount of respired CO2 within investigated samples (e. g. soils). Such respiration can be due to the metabolic activity of living organism within the samples or due to abiotic reactions. These measurements allow the investigation on factors such as ageing, abiotic effects and biotic effects on sample characteristics.

With the CarbOPot, up to 30 samples can be measured simultaneously at a constant temperature. Thereby, the decrease of electric conductivity of a KOH solution is measured which is depending on the amount of precipitated K2CO2 during CO2 evolution.
