Research group "Occurrence and effects of microplastics in inland waters"

Within the research group we are investigating as an interdisciplinary team from the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics in close cooperation with the departments Aquatic Chemistry and Animal Ecology of the Federal Institute of Hydrology (Koblenz) the occurrence and the effects of microplastics in freshwater systems. The research group by funded by the Department 3: Mathematics/Natural Sciences of the University of Koblenz • Landau.
Kick-off meeting of the microplastic research group at the University Koblenz • Landau (12.01.2018)
Kick-off meeting of the microplastic research group at the University Koblenz • Landau (12.01.2018)

Main topics of the research group:

  • Release of environmentally relevant pollutants from different types of plastic, including the effects of weathering by environmental factors,
  • Effects of microplastics on freshwater organisms,
  • Characterisation and quantification of standardised microplastic particles, as well as their extraction from biological matrices
