SMOMBI - Head Down Generation

SMOMBI - Head Down Generation
Period: Nov 01, 2019 - May 30, 2020
Status: laufend

Due to the rise of the popularity of smartphones, for most people they have become a part of daily life. As useful as those phones may be, they result in a bad posture for most people, namely bending over. The frequent taking of "head-down positions" are already leading to an increase in structural changes in the cervical spine. This results in a diverse range of health complaints such as tension pains, headaches, dizziness and degenerative changes in spinal structures. In order to prevent such health complaints, new insights into the effects of the constant flexion position of the cervical spine on the spinal structures are necessary.
Our research project SMOMBI (shorthand for SMartphone zOMBIe) is therefore concerned with the development of a simulation model of the cervical spine by which the effects of an unfavorable head position can be analyzed.
