Projektpraktikum - Creating Smart Spaces & Workplaces

This PP allows students to create a real world smart space within the iDLab. This includes identifying processes and augmenting these processes with Internet of Things (IoT) devices. This PP is a hands-on experience and requires some coding as well as creativity!
Kick-off meeting: 18.10.2017 13:00-14:00 A119.

Projektpraktikum (PP) Creating Smart Spaces & Workplaces

In Winter Semester 2017-18 we are offering a Projektpraktikum.

PP: Overview

IoT Smart Spaces

The PP, named Creating Smart Spaces & Workplaces, aims to augment the IDLab of the EIM Research Group with various IoT devices to create a smart space or workplace. After analysing which workflows and processes are carried out in the lab, the participants of the PP can use the IoT equipment of the Enterprise of Things Lab (EoT) and implement the previously identified workflows (E.g. the beamer activates when a specific number of people are in the room, tracking who is using the room and what he is doing there to “learn” their behaviour and augment specific tasks). The PP will be a “Hands-On” experience and the participants will be able to creatively explore and built a smart space.

The tasks to be performed of the PP are as follows:

  1. Identify suitable workflows in the iDLab, which can be augmented by IoT devices and visualise them using a suitable diagramming or scenario method.
  2. Implement the previously identified workflows and augmentation. That is for each workflow/scenario:
    1. develop a demonstrator prototype to show proof of concept
    2. evaluate the prototypes to assess their viability and capability to support everyday work in the iDLab
    3. Prepare a report on the project, both as a WordPress blog and as a written project report.
