Committees and responsible persons of faculty 7

The Committee for Research and Young Academics meets twice a semester. It deals with aspects of the promotion of research and young academics’ carreers at Faculty 7. These young academics include both students with their interests in entering research after graduation, as well as doctoral and post-doctoral students, habilitation candidates and junior professors. The committee members discuss emerging aspects, problems and developments in the field of research and junior researchers, launch their own initiatives and prepare topics for the Dean's Council and Departmental Council meetings. They also plan the department's research awards and select the award winners from the proposals and applications. Non-members are also welcome to current topics and, if necessary, attend the meetings as guests.

The Committee for Studies and Teaching is composed of one third each of university teachers, students and academic staff. It meets twice per semester. The committee advises the department in particular on matters of study objectives, study reform and study structure, on the preparation of examination regulations, on ensuring the range of courses offered and the organisation of teaching, on questions of quality assurance and on subject-specific study guidance. In addition, the committee awards the annual teaching prize.

The Library Committee works to ensure that larger, and therefore usually more expensive, purchases such as e-book packages that use multiple subjects can be purchased. The budgets of the individual subjects are often not sufficient for this. We usually meet once at the beginning of the lecture period and coordinate these orders.

The Quality Assurance and Development Commission is composed of seven university lecturers, two students, three academic staff members and one non-academic staff member. It usually meets once per semester. In 2013, Faculty 7 decided that the Committee for Studies and Teaching would take on the task of quality assurance in teaching and that the Commission for Quality Assurance and Development would subsequently give its approval to the measures. It was also decided that the function of the departmental representative for quality assurance and development would in each case be linked to the office of the management of FB 7.
The commission initiates quality assurance and development procedures and prepares the internal quality report. The commission uses the information available to it for quality assurance and development to review and further develop the respective degree programme. This also includes the evaluations of the quantitative and qualitative surveys or the data monitor provided by the Method Centre of the University of Koblenz-Landau or the QSL staff unit in accordance with the QSL manual. The commission can develop proposals on which additional quantitative or qualitative data should be collected and which further or alternative measures should be used to gather information. These are checked for feasibility and standardisation by the QSL staff unit or the Method Centre and, if necessary, the necessary procedures are developed. On the basis of the findings obtained in this way, the Commission prepares the quality report.

The Environmental Sciences Examination Committee ensures the implementation of and compliance with provisions of the examination regulations in the Bachelor's degree program in Environmental Sciences and in the Master's degree programs in Environmental Sciences and Environmental Pollution Management. The committee appoints examiners, for example also external supervisors of final theses, and it decides on the recognition of achievements and the fulfillment of admission requirements for the environmental science degree programs. In addition, the committee advises and decides on controversial examination matters.
