M.Sc. Achim Wegscheider
Personal Information:
In my biological studies at the Karlsruher Institute of Technology (2009-2014) I gained expertise in freshwater ecology, zoology, botany and micro-/molecular biology. I also absolved special courses for fish and aquatic arthropods (systamatics, behaviour and ecology), entomology and cryptogams. During and after my master thesis I worked at the State Museum of Natural History Karlsruhe on exhibitions, zoo education, zoological determination and collection management. After my studies I did reasearch in agricultural sciences working on a sustainable project. As a researcher at the University of Koblenz-Landau I combine my environmental/biological knowledge with my research interests as they find application in various projects.
Research interests:
- Aquatic and fish ecology
- Environmental DNA
- Biological interactions
- Species conservation
- Conservation genetics
- Pisciculture and resettlement activities
- Aquaponics
Current projects:
- Biodiversity research at the Eußerthal Ecosystem Research Station
Determination of macrozoobenthos and emerged insects, ecosystem and freshwater analysis
- Conservation and ecology research of the European Weatherfish (Misgurnus fossilis) in Rhineland-palatinate and Hessen
Fish breeding and resettlement activities to conserve this endangered species (cooperation with Dr. Egbert Korte, INGA Riedstadt), behavioural and ecological experiments and analysis
