Aude Arnold

Former member Fish and Freshwater Ecology

I’m a French volunteer at the Institute for Environmental Sciences in Landau for the period of time between September 2015 and September 2016. I take part in the DFÖJ/VEFA program, which enables French people to volunteer in Germany and vice versa. Before that, I got my master degree in agronomy with a specialization in management of rural areas at the engineering school Bordeaux Sciences Agro (National School of Agricultural Engineering) in Bordeaux. I’m interested in environmental issues, especially its management in broad areas, and would like to work in this field later. During my volunteering year in Landau, I hope to gain work experience in the ecological field and learn more about its management in Germany. I’m also eager to deepen my skills in German.

My current tasks

  • Support the team with the field work, mainly in collecting tissue samples of fish and crayfish for genetic analyses
  • Research facilities for the maintaining of fish in Eußerthal: Assistance with setting up aquariums and taking care of the fishes and the facility

Projects I am mainly involved

  • Survey and documentation of the genetic variability of wild populations of brown trout (Salmo trutta), burbot (Lota lota) and noble crayfish (Astacus astacus) from different river basin districts in Germany (more Info)
  • Conservation program for threatend freshwater fish species, crayfish and mussels. (more Info)
