Research Interests

Every day, thousands of chemical substances are released to the environment because of different human activities: emissions of combustion gases, domestic and industrial wastes, agricultural application of pesticides, etc. Ecosystems must deal with all these substances, many of which may alter their functioning, and that is why environmental pollution is undoubtedly one of the reasons behind the global biodiversity loss.

I study the effects of environmental pollution on wildlife using a tiered approach, from the physiological processes that help understanding the mechanisms of action of pollutants to the population and community responses that serve to estimate the ecological effects of pollution. I am also interested in the transfer of this knowledge into risk assessment schemes in order to improve the efficacy of evaluation procedures to protect wildlife from the impact of environmental pollution. My model organisms are amphibians, reptiles and birds.
