Workshop Information

StressNet – Scientific workshop for the advancement of multiple stressor models and databases (13.-15.9.2018)

The current epoch is characterised by an unprecedented influence of human activities on ecosystems through multiple anthropogenic stressors (e.g. habitat degradation and toxicants). The co-occurrence of these stressors is rather the norm and many studies in a variety of ecosystems have examined potential interactions among stressors. Recent meta-analyses of such studies displayed a high variability in the prevalence of additive, less than additive (antagonistic) and more than additive (synergistic) interactions. Generalisations are not only hampered by the complexity of the systems in which responses are measured, but also by differences in interaction classification frameworks and null models predicting the outcome of the stressor interaction. The workshop will unite marine, freshwater and terrestrial ecologists and ecotoxicologists that have been involved in meta-analyses and (null) model development with the aim to discuss:

  1. The potential for a global multiple stressor database

  2. The status and latest developments of (null) models

  3. Specifics of multiple stressor research in each field

The workshop is per invitation only and participants have been selected based on publications. The workshop will be held at the University Koblenz-Landau, Campus Landau, in south-west Germany, located within 1.5 hours by train from Frankfurt Airport. Travel and accommodation information for participants.
