Competence Centers

Through the establishment of competence centers, ZIFET of the University of Koblenz - Landau enables third parties to engage in certain research topics, while financially supporting them and enhancing their visibility. In general, the competence centers are established to address application-oriented, basic research and are funded through donations from third parties. The average time frame of the competence centers is usually a minimum of two years. In essence, the funds will be used in order to finance researchers for the time frame required in their assigned tasks within the respective competence centers. In regards to content, we aspire to achieve various studies and sets of instruments that can be published in ZIFET's own series of working reports or journal articles. Bachelor and Master theses, project and research internships, as well as dissertations, will be supervised by the relevant competence center. Finally, ZIFET supports cooperative ventures from the respective competence centers.

Competence Center for Leadership Intelligence and Virtual Teams in Organisations (LITO)

LITO - the Competence Center for Leadership Intelligence and Virtual Teams in Organisations at ZIFET of the University in Koblenz - addresses various aspects of leadership including digital leadership and e-leadership, digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) and their intersection with leadership intelligence. In general, it deals with leadership aspects in the context of the digital transformation of organisations. Specifically, the LITO deals with the question of how the attitudes, feelings, ways of thinking, behaviours and/or the performance of employees (followers) can be influenced and guided in the directions desired by the respective executives (leaders) through the use of digital technologies.

The aim of LITO is to advance research on leadership intelligence in organisations, especially in companies and with a focus on leading virtual teams, both nationally and internationally. Another mission of LITO is to transfer current scientific results into corporate practice and thus to strengthen the inter-organisational knowledge and technology transfer between research and practice in this field and to support companies in the targeted use of Leadership Intelligence practices.

Intelligent Sports & Tennis Data Analytics – ISTDA.de

ISTDA – the newest competence centre of ZIFET, the Zentral Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Entrepreneurship & International Transfer of the University in Koblenz – focuses on the possibilities to use algorithms in order to intelligently analyse data from sports, especially from Tennis, in order to improve the learning and executing of diverse sports disciplines. Tennis is for many reasons, that is to say full body exercise, high demands on coordination, and the important role of physical as well as mental fitness, the core discipline we are looking at.

This focus of ISTDA – Intelligent Sports & Tennis Data Analytics – fits very well with the profile of the Faculty of Informatics of the University in Koblenz, which is called “Data Intelligence”. The notion of “intelligence” relates to the computer science research field of “Artificial Intelligence” (AI). The notion of “data” mostly relates to the increasing quantity – and due to increasing computer power: processability – of data, that is “big data”. Bringing the two perspectives together, intelligent data analysis discovers hidden facts that are not known previously and provides potentially important information or facts from large quantities of data. The objective is to identify meaning in data.

COMPETENCE CENTER FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF RAILWAY DIAGNOSTIC AND MONITORING TECHNOLOGIES (CC RDMT)

At the interface between the organization (in a wider sense) of railway companies, such as Deutsche Bahn (DB AG) or the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Française (SNCF), and the use of new information and communication technologies, particularly diagnostic and monitoring systems, there is a potential for improvement, which has not been sufficiently researched until now. Through the strategic partnership between ZIFET and the voestalpine SIGNALING Siershahn GmbH in Siershahn, Germany, a unique opportunity has been created to conduct fundamental research at this interface and to position the scientific research strategically and practically.

COMPETENCE CENTER FOR TRANSFER SCIENCE (CC TS)

The scientific discussion regarding knowledge and technology transfer, otherwise known as “Transfer Science”, is still in its initial stages. However, it is particularly important in today’s world as knowledge and technology transfer presents an increasingly complex and dynamic phenomenon. At this point, a transdisciplinary approach is needed, which - now again multidisciplinary - deals substantially with the concept of knowledge and transfer, taking into consideration the social integration of knowledge and transfer, as well as investigating the interaction process that takes place between provider and recipient in terms of knowledge and transfer. ZIFET’s main task is to investigate and pursue those tasks mentioned, in this competence center for knowledge transfer.
