EXIST-Research Transfer supports outstanding, research-based startup projects involving extensive and high risk development work.  Sponsorship is divided into two phases.  The first funding phase focuses on the development of research which has the potential to form the foundation for a business startup. The second phase focuses on further development work, activities surrounding the commencement of business operations, as well as the creation of ideal conditions for a company’s financing. In addition, education and training in management skills is offered, as well as additional support in the startup process.

For more information regarding the application process, contact Dr. Kornelia van der Beek (

The aim of our project is to help minimize the financial obstacles to a start-up company by providing fully-furnished premises free of charge, for a limited time period.

In this way, potential entrepreneurs, of the University of Koblenz - Landau, will be given the opportunity to develop their business ideas.

The program "InnoTop" supports Rhineland-Palatinate companies with research and development projects related to the development of products or processes where routine or periodic changes are made to existing products, production lines, or manufacturing processes.  Acquiring new knowledge and skills and / or the implementation of knowledge and skills in those new products or processes is vital.

The funding program defines “new” as products or processes which have not yet been introduced into the European Union market.

If a technical feasibility study prior to the Research & Development phase is desired, funding may be authorized for this type of study.

Funding levels are set depending on the technological importance of the project and the associated technical and financial risks involved.

A distinction is made between industrial research projects (acquisition of new knowledge and skills) and experimental, development projects (implementation of knowledge into new products and processes).

For industrial research and experimental development projects, the maximum funding rate is set at 80% and 60%, respectively.

The total of non-repayable grant is capped at 500,000 Euros and at 40,000 Euros for a feasibility study.

Applications are to be submitted at the Investment and Development Bank (ISB) GmbH.
