Application for doctoral studies

In Germany, the production of a doctoral thesis is the core of the promotion. This thesis is conducted in consultation with a supervising university teacher as an independent research performance. Requirement for admission as a PhD student is a degree with distinction (Masters or -equivalent) in the corresponding discipline. If you want to undertake a PhD at the University Koblenz - Landau, you can apply directly. You first need to find a professor who supervises your thesis on your own initiative. Please make sure to provide a written confirmation of the relevant department and the respective professor for the supervision.

If you have completed your previous master's degree abroad, it will be assessed if your degree and the required marks are equivalent to a German university degree or marks respectively.


For application as a PhD student the following documents are required:

1. Application for admission

2. Certified copy of your high school diploma in the language it was issued

3. Officially certified translation of your degree certificate into German (a German translation is required only if the original was not issued in English or German.)

4. Officially certified copies of your academic / university degrees (Bachelor, Master) with marks and subject overview

5. Officially certified translation of your university / university degrees into German (a German translation is required only if the original was not issued in English or German. )

6. Commitment of the tutor / supervisor of the thesis ;

7. Tabular CV;

8. Proof of proficiency in German (your supervisor decides whether your language skills in German are sufficient.)

The documents mentioned in the above points 1 to 8 have to be submitted to the respective student office on campus Koblenz or Landau.

PhD study courses are free of charge.
