Cervical Biomechanics

In this research project, multibody simulation models of the cervical spine are created, which realistically simulate the biomechanical properties of the different anatomical structures. Our aim is to make validated statements on the behavior and the load structure. We focus on finding suitable input parameters and the analysis of complex functional interaction of these input parameters. The orientation of the individual vertebrae is of great importance. The cervical spine curvature is modeled as a typical average curvature to make generally valid statements about the biomechanical behavior.

An import and goal of medical treatment is the reconstruction of the natural load distribution and an optimum loading situation after implantation; the simulations carried out in this project help to reach such a situation.
