New double degree planned: Delegation from Rwanda and Madagascar visits the University of Koblenz-Landau

In June 2018, a delegation from the University of Rwanda (Rwanda) and the University of Mahajanga (Madagascar) visited the University of Koblenz-Landau. The aim of the trip was to deepen the long-standing relationships in research and teaching and to expand the cooperation through a double degree for Master students.

From 18 to 25 June 2018, three representatives of African partner universities from Rwanda and Madagascar were guests at the University of Koblenz-Landau. The purpose of the visit was, among other things, the discussion about a planned double degree in the Master programme "BioGeoSciences/tropical ecology".

In the summer semester 2018, six students from Rwanda and six students from Madagascar were already attending the new courses taught in English language focusing on tropical ecology of the BioGeoSciences Master's programme at campus Koblenz. During their visit, the course coordinators of their home universities also gained an impression of the study and research conditions at the University of Koblenz-Landau. Special interest lay in the Institute of Natural Sciences at faculty 3. Guided tours over the campus Koblenz, discussions with their German colleagues and attendance of a lecture/exercise contributed to a lasting good impression.

Both cooperations are based on long-term relationships: The university partnership with the University of Rwanda was established in 1999 and the cooperation agreement with the University of Mahajanga was signed at the end of 2016 during a delegation trip to Madagascar. The cooperations are coordinated by the Rwanda-Center and Office for Africa-Cooperation.
