Research Cooperation with Rwanda in Applied Macroeconomics

The project ran from November 2015 to June 2017 and was advised by a consortium consisting of the ICON Institute, Cologne (project management), the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Kleve, the University of Koblenz-Landau and the Rheinisch-Westfälisches Institut für Wirtschaftsförderung, Essen. Prof. Dr. Sesselmeier and Prof. Dr. Seeber from the Department of Economics at the Institute of Social Sciences and Siegmar Seidel from the Rwanda-Center and Office for Africa-Cooperation took part for the University of Koblenz-Landau. Together with GIZ, the consortium developed measures to strengthen the macroeconomics in Rwanda. The focus was on the

  • Training and further education of senior staff of the Rwandan tax authorities and institutions, such as the National Bank and the Ministry of Economy.

The project also worked in the areas of:

  • Economic planning based on macroeconomic analyses
  • Economic modelling and forecasting
  • Capital budgeting

The University of Koblenz-Landau supported the development of a practice-oriented curriculum for Rwandan universities.
