Child allowance

Child allowance supplements child benefit. Since 1 January 2005, it has been paid for minors living with families with an inadequate family income. Child allowance is worth up to €140 per month and is paid for a maximum period of 36 months.

Parents who live with their children in the same household and whose income and assets enable them to cover their own costs of living but not those of their children are entitled to apply. Families with children who claim unemployment benefit (ALG II) or income support and who otherwise have no income or assets can only additionally apply for child benefit, not for child allowance.

You can use the child allowance calculator to find out whether and how much child allowance you may be entitled to under current law. Further information is available here.
